Thanks for checking out POST POLVO SNOOZE FEST. I want to thank Dan, Jeremy and Shawn for pushing me to post all the material they collected over the past few years. I was extremely lax in making POST POLVO 2 actually happen and they were gracious in making sure their gentle prodding only occurred once or twice a week instead of every day.

Every few months in the late 90s Dan would suggest that it was time for another zine about mix tapes but the thought of visiting a copy shop and doing all the necessary stapling seemed too daunting. When I finally started adding more material to balgavy.com a year or two ago, Dan suggesting we publish POST POLVO online. The idea stuck and he went about gathering more interviews and collecting new material. Once Jeremy and Dan took their mix tape road trip during the summer of 2002, it was determined that POST POLVO 2 had to happen.

Along with Dan and Jeremy, I want to thank everyone who contributed a story, an article or answers the interview questions about making mix tapes. I hope some of you remember the things you wrote five or six years ago and don’t mind that they’re now on the internet, for all to read. I would be remiss in not thanking Sujan for scanning all the documents that were collected in 1996 and 1997. She was also gracious enough to scan the photos from the mix tape road trip.

What’s fun about this edition of POST POLVO SNOOZE FEST is that it practically pre-dates the world of the MP3. There are no real discussions here about creating a mix CD for someone made of 160 or 180 MP3’s. There are none of those cutesy stories about a boy meeting a new girlfriend at the subway station by convincing her to switch iPod’s as they listen in on their separate headphones. There’s no talk of how easy it is to download that perfect song from the internet to fill that 2 minute gap you accidentally left at the end of the cassette tape intended for your best friend from college. I sort of like that about what you read here. Everything was mostly written by ex-college radio dj’s who came of age in the 80s and have way too much knowledge about the intricacies of recording music on audio cassette.

A few days ago Jeremy emailed about the site asking if we would be able to add to it as necessary or whether all new submissions would be kept until version 3.

And I guess that’s my cue to tell you to expect version 3 sometime in the summer of 2010. Oh, in case you missed the first POST POLVO SNOOZE FEST, check out scans of the original zine.
