AMY R. 'S 2003 MOVIE THOUGHTS
by Amy R.

27. Anger Management: So unbelievably bad. I wasn't expecting much because I never expect much from Adam Sandler movies, even after 'Punch Drunk Love'. This movie was so bad, it was painful to watch.

26. Charlie's Angel's 2: Full Throttle: Everything the first movie had--fun, romance, action, etc...the sequel lacked in every way.

25. American Wedding: The first movie was good: not the typical teen movie. The second movie, I still enjoyed, although a little disappointed. This one was complete crap. Half of the cast was missing, with no mention of where they went (including Tara Reid's character. It really says a lot about a quality of a movie if Tara Reid refuses to appear in it.) I was hoping for a bittersweet end to a series I had enjoyed, but instead I got stale pie.

24. Mystic River: I don't understand why this movie is so critically acclaimed. The reviews say that it is a rare, quality adult movie. In that case, I do not want to become an adult.

23. Scary Movie 3: I wasn't expecting much since 'Scary Movie 2' is one of the worst movies ever. But, there were a few entertaining parts, which moved the movie up to #23, instead of last place like 'Scary Movie 2' was in 2001.

22. 28 Days Later: I think I am the only person that did not like this movie. I liked it in the beginning, but about 3/4 of the way through I was ready to leave. I will probably be punished for this bad review by being infected with the 'Rage' virus at some point during my 4 month stay here in London.

21. Bruce Almighty: It was somewhat enjoyable until Bruce had to learn a lesson about selfishness, and slided into a comedic Lifetime drama.

20. The Matrix Reloaded: I did not hate it as much as everyone else did. I was entertained, but was definitely glad when the credits started rolling, and I have no intention of seeing the third installment.

19. Identity: I was very entertained for the most part, I wasn't very satisfied with the ending. Better than I thought it would be. Favorite line: 'Whores don't get a second chance.'

18. Nowhere in Africa: I would probably have liked this movie a lot more if I didn't have to watch it for my 'Holocaust and Film' class.

17. The Life of David Gale: Again, I wasn't expecting much, and it was a little better than I expected. The twist ending was pretty interesting, and I loved the strong liberal message of the film.

16. Head of State: Speaking of strong liberal messages: Why can't we have Chris Rock for President and Bernie Mac for Vice President? I would be much prouder to be an American if these guys were in charge.

15. Down With Love: I was one of the few people that actually enjoyed this campy early 60's parody. I love me my Ewan McGregor.

14. Pirates of the Caribbean: This would have been a lot lower in my list if it weren't for the great performance of Johnny Depp. He was amazing, and definitely deserved the Oscar nomination. As far as the rest of the movie---I think I enjoyed the Disney World ride more.

13. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Scared the heebie jeebies out of me. I'm sure if I saw the original, I would think this one was utter crap, but solely based on the fact that it scared the bejesus out of me, I am giving it a relatively high rating.

12. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days: Wasn't bad for a romantic comedy.

11. Lost in Translation: I love Bill Murray. I think his performance in 'Rushmore' was better, but he definitely deserved the Oscar nomination for this. Loved the karaoke scene. Made me want to go to Tokyo.

10. Bend it Like Beckham: Sort of like 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding' without the obnoxiousness.

9. School of Rock: I bet Dan got many tips for how to teach his 3rd grade class about good music based on this movie.

8. Final Destination 2: The first one actually scared me. The deaths in the sequel were so outrageous, they were funny, and the movie thoroughly entertained me from start to finish.

7. Freaky Friday: I grew up watching and loving the original one with Jodie Foster, so I was skeptical that I would enjoy this one as much. But, this 2003 update was just as enjoyable as the first one, and Jaime Lee Curtis did a great job. I swear there were tears in Stone Groove's eyes at the wedding rehearsal toast at the end of the movie, and I admit I got a little teary-eyed at this moment too.

6. Whale Rider: Keisha Castle Hughes was great. Girl power!

5. Old School: Embarrassed myself in the theater because I repeatedly laughed so hard I snorted. The combination of Vince Vaughn and Will Ferrell was great. Is it true they are making a sequel with Blue in it?

4. Elf: Could have possibly made it to #1, if it weren't for the craptastic ending. But, the 3/4 of the movie I had a big smile on my face. The movie was fun, funny, and Will Ferrell was born to play Buddy Elf.

3. Big Fish: What I learned from this movie: Perhaps Stone Groove's outlandish stories about being the mayor of Shoe City or Circuit City, etc. are really true.

2. Raising Victor Vargas: Thank you Dan for bringing this home with you, otherwise I probably would have missed out on this truly incredible film.

1. Finding Nemo: A repeat of my 2001 movie list in which 'Monsters Inc.' was #1. I think I actually enjoyed 'Finding Nemo' more than 'Monsters Inc.' Ellen DeGeneres was great as Dory, and every character could easily have starred in their own movie. Added points for looking amazing on Stone Groove's 50 inch flat screen TV.
