MITCH'S 2002 MOVIE LIST
by Mitch S.

I did it all in haiku.  Not sure why though.

I missed these (so far):
"Sunshine State," "Y Tu Mama,"
And the two Noyces:

"Rabbit-Proof Fence" and
"The Quiet American."
(Will see in '03)

55 - WELCOME TO COLLINWOOD
A great cast wasted
I was the only one there
To see this (mistake)

54 - STAR WARS II: ATTACK OF THE CLONES
>Young Darth is miscast
Love scenes were hysterical
No thanks on part three

53 - HOLLYWOOD ENDING
Woody Allen, no!
Your worst since "Celebrity"
Please call D. Keaton

52 - XXX
An absolute mess
Hope Sam Jackson was well-paid
Dug the snowboard though

51 - THE RULES OF ATTRACTION
Editing gimmicks
Could not protect young Dawson
From embarrassment

50 - SIGNS
The baseball bat part:
A little too convenient
I didn't buy it

49 - DIE ANOTHER DAY
Berry's orange suit:
Just as good in the trailer
No need to see film

48 - IGBY GOES DOWN
Promising at first,
But pretentious and boring
(Bad combination)

47 - STORYTELLING
So disappointing
Less than the sum of its parts
Maybe two years late?

46 - AUSTIN POWERS 3
Too much recycling
But still a few funny scenes
(A few's not many)

45 - INSOMNIA
No thanks, Swank.  Robin,
Al: You're both bested here by
Martin Donovan

44 - RED DRAGON
The English Patient.
Hannibal?  J-Lo?  Hey, Ralph:
Need a new agent?

43 - MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING
A fine diversion
Kind of a "Love Boat" sub-plot
Stretched to two hours)

42 - THE BOURNE IDENTITY
Plus: Cool car chases
Minus: Damon looks sixteen,
Clive Owen wasted

41 - PANIC ROOM
Asthmatic daughter
Almost looked like son instead
Movie just ok

40 - NINE QUEENS
Average heist flick
With some bonus points for style
(That's all I recall)

39 - HUMAN NATURE
Year's third-best Kaufman
Funny, weird and int'resting
But also cluttered

38 - STANDING IN THE SHADOWS OF MOTOWN
Why ruin the songs
You're celebrating?  LeVert?
Joan Osborne? Bummer.

37 - BLUE CRUSH
Mindless summer fun
Reminded me of "Top Gun"
But with hot surfers!

36 - MONSOON WEDDING
Solid matinee
Light, quick and easy to watch
"Monsoon"'s fun to say

35 - SPIDER-MAN
Loved the first hour
Then it got kind of silly
Still prefer "Batman"

34 - THE GOOD GIRL
A few good scenes here
John C. Reilly: 4-for-4
But no "Chuck and Buck"

33 - NARC
Predictable, yes
But well-acted and well-shot
Ray: no comps for me?

32 - AUTO FOCUS
Uneven, but wow -
All of a sudden, Kinnear
Is a great actor

31 - WHAT TIME IS IT THERE?
Would have ranked higher
If more set-up was given
Re: why he liked her

30 - HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS
Like the first, too long
But still fun with a great cast
Though they're aging fast

29 - COMEDIAN
Second best trailer;
Int'resting if not funny;
Buddy Colin Quinn?

28 - BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE
Was this edited?
A few good parts but kind of
A mess overall

27 - CONFESSIONS OF A DANGEROUS MIND
Not funny enough
To be this tongue in cheek but
Sam Rockwell was good

26 - I AM TRYING TO BREAK YOUR HEART
Wish it focused more
On recording the album
Great songs but fair film

25 - FAR FROM HEAVEN
Beautiful to watch
And Moore's always fantastic
Didn't love it though

24 - LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS
Amazing effects!
Great scenery! But come on -
Over three hours?

23 - ROAD TO PERDITION
Was hoping for more
Loved the look and feel throughout
RIP C. Hall

22 - MINORITY REPORT
A shame the last third
Negated all the cool stuff
From the rest of it

21 - BLOODY SUNDAY
Great camerawork, plus
An appropriate song and
Good performances

20 - MORVERN CALLAR
With a name like this
How could she have expected
To have it easy?

19 - ABOUT SCHMIDT
Sorry, Jack. This time
The Oscar goes to D-Day
All hail the Butcher!

18 - THE ROOKIE
Answers the question
Does pitching in Tampa count?
Yes, apparently

17 - GANGS OF NEW YORK
Lewis captivates,
Leo bores.  Loved everything
(Except the main plot)

16 - 25TH HOUR
The ending hooked me
Hoffman or Pepper would have
Been a better lead

15 - CQ
Hipster cast, French vibe
A little full of itself
But they're Coppolas

14 - SECRETARY
Perfect casting here
Though I wish it had ended
Ten minutes early

13 - THE HOURS
Didn't read the book
All three stories blended well
Really liked the end

12 - CATCH ME IF YOU CAN
If ever a film
Could be called "a joyous romp"
I guess this is it

11 - CHICAGO
Could they be brothers:
Richard Gere/Richard Dawson?
Likely Oscar's pick

10 - ABOUT A BOY
Rachel Weisz is like
Lisa Bonet in "HF":
Leaves you wanting more

9 - ADAPTATION
It's no "Malkovich"
But I still enjoyed the ride
Good year for Ms. Streep

8 - SOLARIS
Cool sets and music
Enjoyed the paranoia
Sci-fi/not sci-fi

7 - ALL OR NOTHING
Bleak British drama;
Mike Leigh and Timothy Spall
Are always solid

6 - POSSESSION
Period romance
LaBute meets Merchant-Iv'ry
Oh, my sweet Gwyneth

5 - ROGER DODGER
Snappy dialogue
Good music, and stellar cast
Should have been a hit

4 - THE PIANIST
Haunting silences
Surpassed my expectations
Brody: fantastic

3 - TALK TO HER
Oh Almodovar!
The best trailer of the year
Lived up to the hype

2 - PUNCH-DRUNK LOVE
Perfect music here
Loneliness personified
Totally unique

1 - THE KID STAYS IN THE PICTURE
Felt like looking through
Bob Evans' photo albums
With the man himself
