after a rainy drive from dc to north carolina (which included a stop in newport news for the purchase of a rail-building game), neal, lionel, patrick and i arrive in a giant house just north of duck. the house is already filled with activity.
matt proves his afternoon pool prowess as alex and mitch look on.
doug and jason team up to show everyone else how pool should really be played.
with beer in hand, tina eyes a fresh pack of cigarettes and comes to the conclusion that if it rains all weekend, she'll still have a fun time.
and on the other side of the basement mitch and neal fire up the foosball action.
heather and erik look on and remind mike that he needs all five dice to come up with similar faces if he's going to scream "yahtzee!" again.
matt (who seems to be all over the house) casually scores a goal on phil's red foosball team. an offer is made to put money on the game until matt realizes that he needs to run upstairs for another beer. upstairs he finds neal and challenges him to foosball. shockingly, a tournament is never organized. had a chalkboard been provided in the basement, this would not have been the case.
jamie knocks the 7 ball into the corner pocket. lionel tries to even the game.
with the gas grill fired up and ready to go, mike dons his rain hood and tends to dinner.
jake uses a pair of tongs to reach for the sausages in the corner.
it's dinnertime and mitch enjoys another beer. phil, wishing there was more corn, takes a serious bite of his sandwich.
it's back to the pool table for doug.
tina decides that it's time to get the outdoor party started. with the cover pried from the top of the hot tub, she adjusts the temperature and climbs in.
jamie and jake make the leap into the pool, giving it the thumbs up (and later run screaming toward their bowels muttering something about numbness in their lower extremities).
with everyone dry, the night sees a friendly game of india rails develop between lionel, jamie, dave, neal & marc (not pictured).
the competition heats up (and crayons are used to draw track between cities which no one can seem to pronounce correctly).
while the rail building continues, a game of asshole develops. phil confidently plays a card.
mike looks on suspiciously.
as tina naps, matt and robin watch tv in one of the two family rooms.
neal confidently maps a route for trading goods.
sometime around 2am, it's decided that a trip to the beach is in order.
a cool ocean breeze doesn't daunt anyone from continuing with the drinking (a memorial day tradition for thousands, one can safely assume).
doug, neal and jamie scale the lifeguard's tower. i try to join them but end up laughing too hard.
