such good tv

a few weeks ago mitch suggested i start recording STATE OF PLAY on bbc america. i can't thank him enough. i've failed everyone who reads this by not sharing this information immediately.

this weekend i finally got around to watching the show (all six episodes) and it's bloody brilliant. STATE OF PLAY is "all the president's men" meets "the wire." there's a murder of a politician's girlfriend and a few newspaper reporters need to find out why. the show is filled with intrigue and twists and turns and action. when it's released on dvd this is going to be the must-purchase gift for anyone you know who loves filmed mysteries.

at this time, there are no upcoming episodes set to air. i'll try to keep an eye on bbc america to find out when they're going to run these six episodes again. they're really damn good. and i failed my new roommate by not saving them. i didn't know the show was going to get better as it went on!

this show also stars kelly macdonald from "trainspotting."

more on wonderfalls

by now i've forgotten that "wonderfalls" even existed, but phillip michaels at teevee.org hasn't. it looks like he's really tired about people complaining about the cancellation of "wonderfalls."

Upcoming Recordings 05/04 - 05/07

It’s been a long time since I’ve done this. Here are a few shows coming up this week that I’m planning to record.

Tuesday
INDEPENDENT LENS (PBS, 10pm) It’s about nightclub diversity, more specifically, a place called The Grand Star in LA.

Thursday
FRIENDS FINALE SPECIAL (TV Land, 9pm) The staff at TV Land watches the final episode of Friends. In the online world that considers itself in the know, this will get more press than the actual final episode of Friends. Stunt television at its most meta.

THE DAILY SHOW (Comedy Central, 11pm) Andy Richter is the guest! He’s on the show to promote his work in the new Olsen twins movie, New York Minute.

Friday
NEW YORK VOICES (PBS, 10pm) A discussion (or possibly just a report) focusing on the proposed Bruce Ratner backed basketball stadium. If built, the stadium will be two blocks from my apartment.

DINNER FOR FIVE (IFC, 10pm) This show is fun. And very easy to watch in segments. It’s the ideal thing to watch between innings of Mets games.
