wired news has a story today about the debate in congress regarding the purchasing of cable television channels a la carte.

i'm really on the fence about this whole thing. i really do think that the whole tier/package thing is good for a lot of smaller channels and that it's possible that allowing individual purchase of channels would lead to higher overall prices. but my rugged individualism (heh) thinks it would be super cool to pick only the channels i deemed worhty of purchase.
then again, why can't the cable company just put in a feature that allows you to see and scroll through a guide that includes on the channels you've designated as favorites? why am i not being consulted on these things?
