The Terrors Have Disbanded

The finals are tomorrow and The Coffee Flats Terrors didn't make it to that level of play this season.

We've decided to ball up our red shirts and toss them to the back of the closet. The Terrors are no more.

Taking the place of The Coffee Flats Terrors is a new team:

THE MARAUDING WILDFOWL

featuring Chris, Kaci, Jamie, Ezra and me (Marc, still known as Turkey Terror)

vs. Jimbo's Sweet Meats All-Stars

20070611_vsJimbosMeats.jpg

Last night was game one of Floyd's 9th bocce season. Chris and I started at the air conditioner end of the court and I was rolling well. After helping collect 4 points on our first side, I was certain I was a shoo in for the "hot hand of the week" award. Ez and Dani held their own on the opposite side of the court. And then things fell apart. We gave up either three then four points or four then three points. It hurt. Game two saw us battling, but we lost. The "hot hand of the week" wouldn't be handed to anyone.

Perhaps it's time our groupies start showing up out of the woodwork in order to route us on?

Here's our schedule for the rest of this short season:

6/18 - 9:30PM - Tchauzinho
6/25 - 9:30PM - Boccelism
7/2 - 9:30PM - Po-Town Pallinos
7/16 - 7:30PM - Bourbon Balls
7/23 - 8:30PM - If You Want My Bocce
7/30 - off
8/11-8/12 - semi-finals
8/18-8/19 - finals

The Tournament

Earlier today the Coffee Flats Terrors defeated Do These Droids Speak Bocce to advance one round in the tournament. We then squared off against Watch Your Balls. It was a tough match, but we emerged victorious in two games.

Next Saturday at 1:30pm, the Terrors will face the number one see, Old Dirty Barristers.

Terrors Woo a Kai

In unprecedented Floyd Bocce League backroom shenanigans, Cap’n Terror, captain of the Coffee Flats Terrors, announced the latest addition to the team, Kat Kai – Traitor Terror is her current nom de guerre. Kat Kai is a founding member of Cobra Kai but when offered a chance to jump ship, she couldn’t ditch her old sinking teammates quick enough. Immediately after fulfilling her last duty as member of the Terrors’ rival, Kat hightailed it up Atlantic Avenue to the CFT team photo session. All attendees agreed that red, not black, is Kat’s color. Traitor Terror was not immune to the pride that the red polo with the team crest instills in a player; she was smiling and getting to know her new surprised but welcoming teammates. She even uncharacteristically tipped back a whiskey toast to celebrate.

Cobra Kai’s leader, Ross (The Sensei), responded to the recruitment by sending a message along with his ex-player – a digital photo of him flipping the bird intended for all of the Terrors. When asked how her ex-team captain took the news, “Traitor Terror” reports that The Sensei in his usual arrogance told her that he was tired of so many girls on the team and that he wanted “only jocks” on his squad. “I saw talent being used but not appreciated” said Cap’n Terror, “this improves my team and I feel like I rescued a swan from a swamp.”

It is more than two months away, but both Cobra Kai and Coffee Flats Terrors have marked November 11 as the day of reckoning. No matter either team’s record, the blood will be hot that day as the rivals face each other for the first time this season. “They might have a revenge factor, but I think we have a clear personnel advantage now” said Cap’n Terror. The CFT are hoping to retain their title as Champions of the Floyd’s Fall Bocce Championship.

This is not the first controversy for the Coffee Flats Terrors. After their championship run, Cap’n Terror could not hold the egos together and the team split along color and clothing lines. The former Coffee Flats Terrors reestablished themselves with new players as If You Want My Bocce and adopted the color green to completely erase any vestige of Terror pride. In August prior to the season, Cap’n Terror tried to unite, not divide, by inviting the original 10 CFTs to reform, but there had been too much time and too many words to turn back the clock.

Good luck to all.

Mayor Ed Boch

I'm a little slow on the uptake (it's because I never check referrer logs). Check out the website of league team, Mayor Ed Boch. They've got a brief recap from the party: And the Winner is....

Since we play on different nights, I think we should set up a pre-summer bocce scrimmage with this gang of hooligans.

Loosen Your Arms

It's time to roll again!

This Saturday (April 29th) is the day the Coffee Flats Terrors head back to Floyd for our tenth match of the season. We'll face Team ODIN as we try to better our 8 and 1 record. The match starts at 3:30.

A quick look at the standings, shows that we may not be in first place. Statistically, it looks like the Plop-n-Drops have a better record with five wins and zero losses. Standings and scores seem to be a week of matches behind, though. The last match listed on the website was played Monday, April 10th.

Team ODIN isn't the only undeafeted group of players. Two other teams share that same rung in the standings. I've heard rumors that every season during the tournament, one team who performed poorly during the regular season manages to make a surprising showing, defeating better teams. Have I just jinxed the Terrors by mentioning this? Is there superstition in bocce? Will ODIN be that come-from-behind-team? Burn Baby Burn? Bad News Pandas?

The tournament starts May 13th. Reserve your seats now.

Standings

Floyd has posted the up-to-date standings for this season.

CFT (6-0) is entrentched firmly atop the Saturday division. The second place team is Cobra Kai (4-2), meaning that a sweep for the Terrors this week would clinch at least a tie for the division title. I don't think that the division crown should be scoffed at, considering the quality of the teams in our group.

There is another undefeated team in the bocce universe, one familiar to those of us who have practiced in Floyd on Tuesday nights, the green-clad Plop n' Drops (4-0). I know that seeding in the tournament doesn't mean a whole lot, but i do think that it would be fun to have a go entering as the top seed.

The Void

Good to hear some of the terrors were out staying sharp during the first week off.

Remember what Mark Twain told us,

"All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence, and then success is sure."

Floyd got their act together and updated their website to include the first couple weeks of this season as well as the new team profile.

It is so ON.

The Saturday team that features a few ex-Terrors, IF YOU WANT MY BOCCE, now has a full on internet presence in the form of their new blog. It's as creatively titled as this one. For the trash talking to get underway, check out If You Want My Bocce.

If anyone knows of any other websites from teams in the league, let me know.
