What I've Been Up To

Earlier tonight Listmaker asked me what I do with all the photos I've taken for the last year and a half. "I file them" was my response. And that's it. I might flip through them but I no longer select the best shots and put them together for this webpage. I'm not sure when I lost interest in doing that, but I did. Handwashings mentioned that he missed my podcasts. I sort of miss doing them. I have a secret fear that I'll start smoking again if I do another podcast. It's total superstition.

Anyway, I think I'll post random blog entries in the near future about what I've been doing while in my thirties. Earlier today Handwashings and I took the G to McCarren Park pool for the Band of Horses show. We got there early and caught some rays. Listmaker joined us in time to see the headliners.

I had a fun time. I wish Band of Horses had been opening for a band a little more suited to the venue - someone a little more rousing and able to really take control of the space and the crowd. It was a free show, so I'm not really complaining. And I've got to say I'm a huge fan of that venue. Is it the best outdoor space for live music in the city?

podcast #19 is online

It's true. Upon getting home from Cringe earlier this evening I was much more excited to watch Project Runway than Lost.

Podcast #19 is now online. It contains the audio of me reading during Wednesday night's Cringe event. Download it now to listen to a letter I never mailed in which I try to convince a friend to analyze a relationship. I also mention my first kiss and I'm disappointed I didn't describe it in more detail. The second half of the podcast hints at a different direction for future podcasts.

As for Cringe, check out Stuart's photos from the night and read the story behind the journal he kept.

(All flickr photo posts tagged with "Cringe" are here.)

Also, I want to say "thank you" to the friendly woman who let me sit at her table upon my entering the back room and looking a little lost. It was fun chatting with you and your friends and I'm sorry I dashed out of there so quickly. It was stuffy, I needed air and planned to return but then I ran into a friend at the bar.

podcast #18 is online

For the past month I've wanted to do an audio comments podcast. That show is now online. There's some audio comment goodness in this one. And I talk about a weird personal health issue.

podcast #15 is online

While searching for an interesting postcard or two to decorate my apartment I found a documentary treatment I wrote in the Fall of 1994. It's called YOUR RAZOR OR MINE? Proving that I was more creative and interesting a decade ago (yet obviously obsessed with facial hair), I've included it in the podcast. Or, perhaps I read it because I'm trying to stir up interest in a documentary about facial hair? You be the judge!

podcast #14 is online

Ahh, December. It's the time of year for office holiday parties and "top ten things of 2005" lists. In my best attempt to recycle content, here's podcast number 14. It's another podcast from CRINGE. In an exciting twist, I've included some bonus material. In order to get to my reading (a letter to Bob Iger, President of ABC written when I was 16), you'll have to listen to a few other letters I don't anticipate reading at Cringe. For no-holds-barred excitement, download the podcast and listen to the unbridaled enthusiasm conveyed in letters to Rolling Stone, the cable company and a local newspaper columnist.

podcast #13 is online

Part two (the conclusion) of the great west coast baseball trip podcast is now available. It's filled with me talking in silly voices, lots of routing for Hee-Seop Choi, enthusiastic fans in Long Beach and an interview with "dancin' Alex," an usher for the Las Vegas 51's minor league baseball team.

Don't forget to check out Danny Baseball's photos and game write-ups from the trip (baseball diaries)

podcast #12 is online

This past Friday night I saw BEE SEASON. It's a new movie based on a book by Myla Goldberg. When I got home I thought I'd write about it. Then I had a revelation (in which I ignored the dictum - Just Because You Can Doesn't Mean You Should) that I'd podcast my thoughts on the movie.

Earlier tonight I went to see SHOPGIRL. I'd sort of wanted to see it but then forgotten about it. I remembered the movie this evening when I had an urge for popcorn. It seemed like it might be a light fun, popcorn sort of movie. It was light but anything but fun. It's probably good I'm not audibly sharing my views on the film. That podcast would be me repeating the phrase "terrible" over and over again.

A few days ago iTunes got a little funky with my podcast feed. It wasn't working for a few hours there. If your iTunes feed of the balgavy.com podcast isn't working, delete the feed and re-subscribe. Let's cross our fingers and hope that fixes the problem.

Don't forget about BEE SEASON, though.

podcast #11 is online

the little "catchphrase" for my podcasting is "more talking. less typing." that seems to hold true this month as i've now posted my third podcast in less than two weeks. balgavy.com podcast #11 turns back the clock to august's west coast baseball trip. i took my italk on the trip and recorded random thoughts during baseball games, motel stays and hiking trips. for those not in the know - ella is a dog. she can be heard panting about 3/8ths of the way into the podcast.

oh, and there's not too much talk about baseball. dippin' dots do come up, though.
