Replacing Veronica Mars
Tuesday has become a rough night for television. I don't watch American Idol, Law & Order or Gilmore Girls so there isn't much else on that I watch. Last night I recorded WHAT ABOUT BRIAN just so I'd have something to watch when I ate dinner tonight. If that's not desperate, I don't know what is. Happily, I was able to watch the entire episode without saving part for later in the week (which is what happened last week).
I guess VERONICA MARS is on one of those breaks that happens to shows every now and again. I try to watch so much TV that I don't notice that sort of thing. Unfortunately, I'm now noticing. But there's a solution for poor TV choices on Tuesday night. That solution? THE AGENCY on VH1. I caught an episode last week and now I'm totally hooked.
THE AGENCY feels like THE HILLS for late twenty-something New Yorkers. It's reality television, but with that gloss of being totally jazzed up for dramatic effect. It's the story of what goes on at a modeling agency. And people argue and then complain behind the backs of their co-workers. I guess I should say THE AGENCY is LAGUNA BEACH for cubicle dwellers instead of high school students? There's a dude named Pink. I missed the first episode or two, so maybe I shouldn't be routing for him, but I always am. Maybe it's because he never shaves, has a dozen tattoos and a funny haircut. Perhaps I route for him because I don't like the accent of his co-worker, Becky. Yeah, there are "characters" on this show. And they're perfect. The complaining and the arguing and the ridiculous scouting that goes on in every episode makes for a perfect 22 minute dose of time-filling TV watching every week.
