baseball trip 2006 - On the Road
It's night two of the 2006 Baseball Trip. We're in Lake Girardeau, MO. That's pronounced Lake Gerardo, or so the night clerk at the hotel informed me.
I arrived in St. Louis yesterday afternoon and I feel like I've already had an eventful trip. Lots of baseball. A Grizzlie Burger (aka a Luther Burger at the Gateway Grizzlies game). There are tons of stories and photos to share from that game, by the way. And Ted Drewes. Once last night and once this afternoon. The line on Saturday night after the Cardinals game was amazing. There were about 10 times as many people there as there are late on a Saturday night at Carl's in my hometown of Fredericksburg, VA. And the lines at Carl's are not short. The frozen custard didn't measure up, though. It was good. And I liked all the mix-ins. I went Oreo cookie.
I'm getting sleepy. Also, I saw some karaoke in a stripmall bar called Sharkey's. And I had my picture taken with Miss Summerfest. Can life get any better? A game in Little Rock is on tap for tomorrow night!
Also, thanks to Bo and Mark from Keystone Event Staffing for the amazing t-shirt! I met them at the Gateway Grizzlies game and they were both super friendly and enthusiastic. It's folks like these two guys who make independent league baseball one of the most fan-friendly experiences anyone can have in sports.
If you ever find yourself within 30 miles of Collinsville, IL get yourself to The World's Largest Catsup Bottle! Listmaker and I met Mike (Big Tomato), his wife, Judy (I've forgetten her moniker) and a handful of their friends from Collinsville. They're two of the nicest people I've ever met at a ballgame and I love that they're such strong supporters of their town.
I'll update the blog with pictures once I get back to Brooklyn. At that point I also hope to file a report with A Hamburger Today on the amazing Grizzlie Burger. Let's just say I wish I had the option to get this sandwich at every ballpark we're visiting.

Marc,
It was a blast to meet you and your compadre last night! All the best with your travels, and I hope our paths will cross again some day soon. Thanks for the kind words on your blog... only wish we could stow away in your suitcase and go with ya! Catsup with ya later,
Mike & Judy
