number one in america

yesterday morning i joined dan and sujan at the multiplex theatre on court st. for the early show of MEAN GIRLS. it's funny. it ranks high among some of the other good teen films from the past ten years (bring it on, can't hardly wait).

i agree. allison and i saw it in adams, mass. in one of the creepiest theatres i've ever been to. we laughed heartily throughout and were a bit stunned by the relative silence of the rest of the crowd, all of whom were teenagers. were we far enough removed from it all to see the humor in it? on one level it seemed like a teen film but then the teens didn't really seem to be getting the same enjoyment out of it that we were. at one point, as i was laughing at one of the insults dealt out in the film , the girl behind me said to her friend, "i say that all the time." and one of my favorite jokes, the one near the end about already having paid the dj, went over like a lead balloon with our crowd. sitting there, chuckling loudly in that quiet theatre, i felt like a big narc.

i laughed when plastic #2 tried to integrate "fetch" into teenspeak and plastic #1 totally called her on it. i laughed during most of the movie. what happened to ana gasteyer's face though? she looked old.

what happened to her face? ACTING!
