welcome to portland

i just got home from o'connor's. i was there to meet the group i'm happy to call me tv club. we'd assembled at the local bar for a few drinks and talk of THE O.C.

first off - a few questions. what did summer mean when she said something about seth only being able to paint the ceiling? what was that about? why was there a joke that we all totally didn't get?

i guess that's my only question.

oh, and marissa's shirt - the sleeveless one that had a normal strap on the left side but then had a wooden or metal ring on the right? and was showing some kind of white undershirt? what was that about? very odd.

but seth and summer were great together. i can't remember what else i enjoyed. the seger line was repeated often at the bar. everyone loved that.

once again, a top notch episode. but next week looks troubling.

there was also discussion that it's about time one of the characters gets an episode all to herself. we decided on summer. everyone would love that. but then the ladies would miss out on having a non-seth episode and we don't think that would fly.

more later, i guess.

UPDATE (12:47pm): i want to also mention that while at o'connor's the text messaging on mobile phones got out of control. i had no idea people actually used their phones for texting. i mean, i knew it existed, but i had no idea it was as frequent and common as it is. it was very disconcerting. i think i'm going to have to get one of these mobile phone things soon.

yeah, a lot of my friends were complaining that last night was terrible, but i thought it was just fine. not mind-blowing, but fairly decent. LOVED the Seger line. Loved "You're such a dandy, Cohen."

I didn't get the bit about Cohen painting the ceiling either. Michelangelo reference or something???

also stumped about the ceiling painting. either one of the writers is too smart for his own good or we're not the fans we think we are. should we write a letter to the writers?

my fave scene was the juice bar razzmatazz:

JuJu: i even had to block you from my buddy list, you were so incessant.

Luke: you blocked me? i thought you were just offline.

does anyone know what movie the gang went to see?
one last thing for the sethfans: was the expression on his face at the end when they're all sitting on the bed and he's just been ribbed for knowing about the carebear stare the most priceless thing you've ever seen? it almost looked like he forgot how to act for a second or got confused about whether the cameras were off or on. but it totally worked. it was this awkward, teenage supposed to be having fun but not really kind of look. okay, that's enough.

what IS the care bear stare?

oh man, i loved last night's episode. i think personally our group of OC watchers is beginning to take the show less seriously. we now allow jokes and discussion during the episode, which used to be totally taboo.

we could not get enough of the seger scene.

and kf, someone else in our group also mentioned the possibility of a michelangelo reference. that's just so weird though. and still confusing.

Hmmm. I posted the ceiling thing to the orkut oc community, maybe they can help.

according to this site the care bear stare allows the care bears to unite and beam good energy at their enemies. (why would care bears have enemies? wouldn't that be like hating sunshine or something? did they have mortal enemies, with a name like "the scare bears" or something? clearly i know nothing about this cartoon.)

is the care bear stare when the energy beams come out of their magical bellies? i never had a care bear, but i kinda know the theme song from the cartoon. it starts, "care bears countdown..." whenever i try to sing the rest, i accidentally segue into the theme for punky brewster.

also, shmoo, dan knew what movie they were watching. maybe he'll chime in. marc thought the murals on marissa's bedroom wall were homages to moulin rouge. "that's so 3 years ago," he snarled.

anyone catch what it said on the bottom of seth's missouri shirt? the top line, above the silhouette of the state read: get me out of my....

oh and as much as i hate cal for proposing to juju, i loved that he got her an emerald engagement ring, rather than a diamond.

apparently, "painting the ceiling" is a masturbation reference. i never would have gotten that. but now that i do, HA! yay for summer.

I also do not understand the "ceiling-painting means you're a foppish dandy" line of reasoning.

However, I TOTALLY support a Summer "solo episode," possibly with another character. Ryan seems obvious, but maybe someone like Jimmy, who at least has some charisma, and works well as a straight man. Maybe they could be forced to take a funny road trip to Seattle, to get Seth a rare comic book, or rescue Marissa from another mental institution. Think of the possibilities.

Also, Summer is hot. Admit it.

Also, Jimmy is not so bad either.

Oh! Masturbating! Now I get it.

Yeah, that makes sense. Another poing for Summer.

Er. Another "point", that is. I did not mean to suggest that I would like to "poing" Summer.

i'd poing her in a second. also i think the viewers would like to meet some of her family.

oh yeah, that percoset popping stepmom would be a hoot. as soon as luke is gone for good, they can introduce her.

Damn, sounds like I missed a doozy of an episode. I was having my taxes done at H&R Block. I am amused by everyone coming around to be so enthusiastic about Summer. Back during the epic Summer vs. Anna struggle, I felt like the only pro-Summer person out there.
