tomorrow's OC discussion today

how much do we love the oc? so much that we can't imagine waiting another four hours to start the discussion. at balgavy.com, life is like it was on the tv show that starred kyle chandler (early edition). but instead of getting tomorrow's newspaper today, you're getting to start the oc chatter this evening instead of tonight. all of this is done in order to avoid a repeat of our embarrassment last week that had us deleting comments and not starting an OC discussion until well into thursday afternoon.

possible topics for discussion:
sandy's eyebrows
sandy's mom
sandy's son
why hasn't sandy gone surfing recently?
did sandy fully give up the flirtation with that minx in his office?
does sandy still report to that corporate job of his?
what sort of wacky subplots will happen within the walls of the new restaurant sandy is starting?
is it possible that seth will take it in a peach pit after dark direction by the middle of the second season?

let the fun begin. and remember, we'll be returning to this space after the show with a few of our well worn opinions.

update 1 (11:30pm): theresa's fiance gets the line of the night - "but i'm eating cake." eating cake excuses anything. what a weird episode, right? where were all the thugs that pushed ryan down? why is ryan taking everything these days? his punchcount is down. and marisa - finally she's wearing a cute shirt. i was happy about that. but what was up with changing in front of ryan? that scene was all "whoa, are they going to have sex on the bed in the room of the guy who is in jail?" they didn't. ryan barely batted an eyelash. he's all about playing it cool. and what's up with jimmy and hailey? those two holding hands at the dinner table (nice catch, sujan). more thoughts as they come to me.

Comments

wow. i missed the handhold. how cute.
i'm totally bummed about the nana succumbing to the lameass guilt trip. fuck chemo. let the woman die how she wants to die, dammit.

i look to the O.C. for guidance on all ethical quandries and they're really failing me lately. ryan taking punches? sandy opening a restaurant is one thing, but caleb as a business partner? you've gotta be kidding me.

my world is crumbling.

and if you're going to have a character borrow someone else's clothes, there should at least be a "going through the closet scene." i can't suspend my disbelief that theresa and the anorexic would wear the same size dress.

The thing that was bugging me all episode long was why Marisa's dad didn't even know she was gone, and how she kept saying "I can't go back there" because she was upset about her mom and Luke, but the fact is that she lives with her dad, right? Okay, now is when I reveal that I missed the last episode or two. Did Marisa move back in with her mom? Because if she's still living with her dad, then a) He should have realized she'd been gone for 24 hours and therefore be more concerned about that than about making out with the stripper aunt and b) Marisa shouldn't have been so reluctant to go back home, when home is her dad's place not her teenager-screwing mom's house. Finally Ryan said to her, "But what about your dad," and then listed off other people who would be upset if Marisa never came home, including the little sister, a lame character we haven't seen (or at least I haven't noticed) since the cotillion episode about 6 months ago.

all good points jim, esp. about the missing younger sister. as far as i know marissa still lives with her dad. but that's what makes the oc so great - every episode requires so much suspension of disbelief!

I think this was a great episode from start to finish. linda lavin was great. seth got to do a serious acting scene! sandy was great. i like that ryan and toesucker patched things up. no complaints.

the only question is who's going to get hospitalized next week? the obvs choice is luke. but i'm thinking maybe it's jimmy?

man. i thought last night's episode sorta sucked. the nana bit was boring, although i did love that the nana was alice. marisa wasn't as lame as usual, which was almost disappointing. (though she does get terrible-acting points for the "get out of my way!!!" scene with ryan, where she collapses, crying, into his arms.) also, there weren't really any great lines last night.

as for next week's hospitalization scene, any chance it could be chino girl? or was this her last appearance?

i know that kids from the other side of the tracks grow up faster, but aren't theresa and devilboy 16, just like the Newport Beach gang? why were they acting like they were in their 20s?

cheryl: no great lines last night? i think you were watching the west wing by accident.

as marc already pointed out: eddie: "but i'm eating cake." jimmy: "i ate a lot of muffins." summer: "I'm gonna out-jew you." summer was on fire last night, come on. memorizing the 4 questions??? maybe you have to be jewish to appreciate good seder humor.

wow, that's a really good point. what are those 16 year olds doing getting married??
also-- another item in the "suspension of disbelief" category-- why is it that all of ryan's male enemies punch him for sleeping with their girlfriends, see his side of things right away, forgive him, and become his best friends? it happened with luke and now it's happening with mr. chino. i guess 16 year old boys have gotten more understanding or something.

kfan: i think we were talking too much during last night's episode, b/c i missed 2/3 of those lines. damn it!!

cheryl, if your friends are talking during the oc, then maybe they're not really your friends.

i don't like how they keep introducing a new character in each episode. more screen time for sandy and luke, please. and juju.

i agree with susu. the mother came out of nowhere. i'm just glad she's heading back to the bronx, as much as i enjoyed her character. the o.c. is in danger of turning into the gilmore girls with so many characters that just disappear for weeks on end.

precisely shawshaw. i love linda lavin, don't get me wrong, but let's stick to the newport nine. let's see, seth, summer, coop, RA, sandy, kiki, juju, luke, jimmy...wait, that's already 9 and i haven't counted cal. shit.

wat is marisa's little sister's name?

if ur online now den can u answer quik pleaze????!!!!!!
