with that blue shirt, marissa looked five years old
wednesday's episode of THE OC was terrible. discuss.
(i will add more comments during the next 24 hours):
1:18am - jim just emailed me and told me he enjoyed the episode. maybe i watched the show while in a bad mood. maybe i was upset because i read somewhere that someone had reigned in peter gallagher's eyebrows as the show got popular.
11:27am - while at the computer last night i let this episode run again in the background. normally, a good episode of THE OC would have me turning around in my chair to face the television. didn't happen last night. the whole thing came off as very disjointed. i knew we were in trouble when eric balfour made his appearance - another character? let's just have one more episode with the core group! is it still sweeps month? i want sweeps-worthy episodes that don't spend an hour shifting gears and re-aligning stories. my favorite moment was watching luke walk into a door after seeing juju cooper in the school hallway. that's funny. that's dramatic, in a blatently over-the-top way. that's what we want more of.
12:04pm - one thing i intended to ask about last night - what is summer's last name? (this question appeared on this week's tv gal column)

it wasn't terrible. i liked it pretty good. i'm glad anna lives to see another episode. marrisa had THE LAMEST OUTFIT EVER on. it was like a long sleeve shirt, plus a tube top, plus a mini skirt or drndl, plus jeans and heels! so ugga. she's still lame.
the scene with summer and seth standing on the kissing booth could have been played a lot more shmaltzy, I thought.
anna was gorgeous as always, but what was that piece of duct tape on her shirt? it had some kind of writing on it? wtf? no matter, i still love her.

oh my god!!! marissa is SO HIDEOUS. why is she so hideous. did she really need all those layers? aren't they in so. cal?
i hope anna wasn't too bummed out last night. she's the best.

i don't know about "the best". that whole scene with her "boyfriend" coming out of the bathroom as she quickly hangs up was tres soap cliche, but it also paints her in a fairly unsavory light as far as I'm concerned (even though I do still see him as Claire's drugged out weirdo boyfriend from Six Feet Under).
marissa is terrible though. she looks like a margaret keane painting.

jamie - you're too kind..margaret keane's are kind of cute in that creepy wayl. marissa's just creepy.
kfan - the piece of duct tape said je t'aime, i'm pretty sure. i don't know if it was duct tape applique or anna being the desperately seeking susan art-punk she sometimes dresses like
cherly - the episode *did* suck. last week was like a balloon filled up with helium and this week the air was let out. remember, there are higher standards at stake here. i also thought the whole trying to turn "tella novella" into a catchphrase bit was too much.

last night's episode was not the best ever, but it did not suck. the scene with luke stumbling down the hallway away from mr & mrs cooper was awesome. also seth's walkout on sex with summer was great. "you're going to be crossing your own picket line in no time!" and also summer's scene with anna where she talks about being afraid that seth will dump her was very sweet.
the subplot about sandy helping caleb's friend is super super lame, and i wish we weren't going to have to see more of it. and i'm not super into the stuff about theresa being engaged. but other than that, it was fine.

oh wait, i think i have anna and theresa mixed up. shit. i'm still not fully paying attention yet.

summer roberts.

There have been worse episodes, definitely. But better ones too, I'll admit.
The subplot with Caleb's henchman was just beginning, as you could see in the "scenes from next week." They are setting the stage for either a big fallout between Kirsten and her dad and/or a criminal investigation into both of them. I'm interested to see how that progresses. Maybe they'll lose all their money and have to move to Chino. But then they would have to rename the show The I.E. (Inland Empire).
I liked when Marissa and her mom barely missed each other at the motel. Those over-the-top hammy moments are one of my favorite things about the show. The relationship stuff with Ryan and both girls was annoying. As I said to Marc, that guy's acting seems to be getting worse as he goes along. He is the worst actor of his generation (meaning all the 30 year olds who play high school kids).
Anna is way too rich-girl-glam-looking to be a convincing indie rock chick. I don't like the way she talks either. Eric Balfour is hot. I hope we get to see him shirtless again in future episodes.

you are so horny today jim! have you gotten your subscription to "sweet action." it's for "indie-girls" but you sort of qualify.

Hey, no one suggested that Marc was an "indie girl" when he said Adam Brody was hot in last week's O.C. blog entry. Let's play fair here in blogland, SuDan. (I assume it's one of you. Whatever happened to that nickname anyway? It was hot for a while then dropped off the radar. We should be using it more and more now that your brains seem to be melding into one organism.)
