season two (2)
my thoughts on tonight's season premiere of THE O.C. are coming soon. i haven't watched the episode yet.
[update - 11:40pm]
this episode really delivered! my hopes weren't sky high, so i was ready to enjoy the new episode of the o.c.. the first forty minutes had me somewhat ambivalent but then theresa delivered the news to ryan about the baby and the action quickly picked up. the way the producers are handling that issue (by having her lie about the baby not having a heartbeat. but really keeping it) is perfect. a cop out, of course. but the right kind of cop out filled with juicy soap opera nonsense that could play out nicely at the end of the season.
marissa's screamfest in front of her mother was a little too much for me (although i do like juju knowing where the pause button of marissa's ipod is located).
i want more of portland, though. what i mean by that, is i want more of the fancy dialogue seth and luke engaged in during the portland work scene. that's the strong point of the show. now that last year's loose ends have been explained and everyone's headed back to school, i think we'll get to that fun dialogue soon.
i also liked that benjamin mckenzie is now billed as ben mckenzie. a true sign of toughness.
what did i miss? what did everyone else like/hate/etc.?

dan live blogs the episode while sujan tries to focus on the show.
Posted by marc@balgavy.com at November 4, 2004 09:08 PMi thought this first episode was quality. it answered our questions and set the scene for a totally kick-ass season, for which i cannot wait. two things i didn't like:
1) how every character kept referring to the fact that it had been a whole summer since x, as if the audience couldn't be expected to realize that a summer had gone by.
also,
2) marisa's freakout was WAY TOO MUCH. what was that?
i only caught the last 20 minutes due to the fact that i thought the show started at 9. i love the fact that in one episode they unraveled just about everything that happened last season and brought us back to square one. brilliant. marissa - way over the top, but i've come to look forward to her sullen histrionics. "hobos are in again" - classic seth line.
Posted by: shmoo at November 5, 2004 09:52 AMI guess my main concern was with Summer's hair. It looked really flat and weird in the scene where she drops off Seth's stuff. But other than that I really enjoyed it, and it got me really excited about this season. I agree with Marc that they way they played Theresa's pregnancy was just about perfect, and we can look forward to that factoring in again later this season.
I'm also kind of eh about the Marbot-Gardener stuff, since I already get plenty of that on Desperate Housewives, but whatevs.

it was also quite brilliant the way they went DIRECTLY from the last scene of the OC into the beginning of north shore, with nary a commercial or intro to break it up, and how they shamelessly worked the fact that hot lesbians were about to get it on. amazing.
