17 going on 23

i think last night's episode of THE O.C. had something for everyone. i think it was a fun episode, but not one of the most memorable.

the fight between julie and hayley could've been a lot better! - why were there no underwater shots? why were there no over-the shoulder close-ups in the water? we see the two women jump into the pool and splash around a bit and that's it? bah. i wanted more.

but when jimmy decked caleb - that was great stuff. especially since sandy had been calling him k.k. all night. that was the best line of the night (when sandy first said that).

i'm just typing random notes here. no cohesive thoughts. i forgot to make this entry last night. i was too busy watching SMALLVILLE.

what else?

the trucker had thing was appropriately ridiculous.

and the poker nonsense was nonsenese.

i believe it was ca-ca (pronounced kay-kay), short for caleb...
also marissa's outfits were remarkably (and somewhat disappointingly) normal... summer looked especially cute though, i thought. i was shocked they didn't milk the pool scene for some wet-t-shirt shots... and i believe it was sean in our group that totally called the trucker hat line about 10 seconds before seth said it. pretty funny.
all in all-- a great episode, but yeah, maybe not the most memorable.

as always i vehemently disagree and request to know the name of your crack dealer. it was a great episode, one of the very best ever, memorable on par with the chrismakkuh episode.

i really can't find fault with this episode. by the end, between jimmy decking caleb, and the "deal me in" jump cut to ryan wearing the trucker hat, i was up out of my chair, fist in the air. okay so i'd had a few drinks, but still.

i would also like to say that hailey is my new favorite, she has been gaining steam over the last few episodes and at this point i just love her to death.

sorry, i have way more to add. ryan's mom always went to reno! the white trash las vegas. how best was that. plus ryan used to count cards? i love it! plus "i'll just keep being passive aggressive and whiny until she realizes what a great catch i am." plus hailey's overshare about sex with jimmy. summer amazed that she is crying ACTUAL TEARS. also, texas hold 'em is not a prostitute thing.

all so very best.

but how could summer not even care (by the end) that Seth was making out with a prostitute (and had been referring to her as an "ex-girlfriend) who he thought was just some hot chick who wanted him? she shows up all pissed off, but then takes this weird "boys will be boys" tack and casually tosses them $500. what gives? she just recently lost her virginity to this dude - it doesn't seem like she'd be so flippant about it.

the male stripper scene was great. Sandy: "try to keep them off the furniture." very fun episode.

she flippantly treated seth like shit, who is she to be all pissed if he goes and kisses some other girl a few times? i thought her reaction was very mature.

that sandy line about furniture was awesome.

i hope jamie and friends picked up a few tips for the upcoming AC smackdown. if a "random" comes up to you and kisses you, well, you know she's a prostitute. have your cash rolls ready! and stay away from the texas hold-em.

summer's reaction to seth kissing the prostitute was a little *too* mature... i mean, she is in high school. ALSO: i LOVED that the prostitute was supposed to be an english grad student! you could tell b/c she had glasses on at the pool when she met seth, and she was carrying a book. (though she was never seen with glasses throughout the rest of the episode.) so awesome.

I didn't watch The O.C. this week. I was at Film Forum seeing The Third Man with David Wells and two of his sassy South American friends. One of them was Uruguayan...!

Reading all of your comments without having seen the episode is a bizarrely unenlightening experience. I honestly can't tell what in hell must have been going on, except for the obvious: a couple fights and Seth making out with a hooker.

I just got back from Syracuse. It was a very long train trip. What made it longer than its actual time duration was the smell emanating from the car behind the one I was in.

Let me describe the smell: imagine that a woodsy animal--a large squirrel, a rabbit, or perhaps even a small deer--had died on the train and sat there rotting for a day or two. THEN someone, wrongly thinking they had a clever method of covering up the decaying flesh odor, sprayed about a dozen aerosol cans of Aquanet hairspray all over the place. That's right, it was one of the most unpleasant things I've ever run across.

I first boarded the train right onto that car, which was full of people somehow enduring its smell. I had to hold my breath and speed through it, fortunately finding a seat in the next car up and wondering what kind of idiots all those people were. But as the trip went on, passengers kept going between the cars to get to the cafe car or whatever, and in the delay when both doors were open the smell began creeping in. I thought about moving further up, but that would have meant sharing a seat. So I just stuck my nose into my shirt and breathed my own B.O. so as not to choke on the much more toxic corpse-hairspray fumes.

I won't let this one nasty experience ruin my preference for Amtrak over flying (I could have taken Jet Blue for about $20 less). After all, the trip up was exceedingly pleasant, with constant picturesque views of the Hudson from here to Albany, no disgusting odors, and plenty of leg room.

So, uh, Marc, can I come over sometime and watch that O.C. episode?
