hello sunshine
last night's episode of THE OC was fun, right?
a few issues that came up during last night's discussion of the show:
1 - after i mentioned the liberal use of make-up on the show, cheryl suggested that the make up artist should be fired. a rather harsh assertion, i think. let's start with using less foundation on ryan's ex (as, i believe, katie suggested).
2 - i should refrain from commenting on how hot adam brody is. when i commented that the overhead shot of him in bed without a shirt was more bob, carol, ted and alice than 90210, the joke went over like a lead balloon.
3 - eliza postulated that THE OC is ONE TREE HILL's trashy, slutty cousin (or some words to that effect). i disagreed. then she reminded me that sandy on THE OC looks a lot like DAN on ONE TREE HILL. one dad is good and one is evil.
one more thought - before drifting off to sleep i caught samaire armstrong (anna) on LAST CALL WITH CARSON DALY. i'm now trying to remember how she pronounced her name. something like sSah mee rahh. it was weird. and she's got all these hand to hand combat skills. with like spears. and rob schneider was the other guest who stayed on the couch while samaire and carson chatted. a perfectly bizarre ending to the night.

Posted by marc@balgavy.com at February 19, 2004 12:40 PMIT WAS AWESOME. except what's up with no anna? hello? at least she'll be back next week. but i have to say that sandy was in fine form last night. and i'm thrilled that ryan is giving coop the cold shoulder. she sux. he should date that other girl. i like to refer to her as china, which is the feminine version of chino.
i was a little disappointed that they didn't tease out luke's chase for MILF. it was pretty fun and they could have gotten more mileage out of that before the consumation of the relationship.
Posted by: kfan at February 19, 2004 01:44 PMALSO I think there was a glaring error in last night's ep: seth has that ryan adams song on VINYL? i don't think so.
Posted by: kfan at February 19, 2004 01:46 PMi was also thrilled that ryan dissed coop last night, but what's up with his chino best friend who looks like she's 40?
also, i was thinking about the luke/mrs. cooper relationship today. i think the only reason it works and doesn't seem terribly trashy and gross is that most of the OC characters are so *dorky*. they're so much more real than any characters on 90210 ever were (except for marissa, and maybe ryan too). so, when you see the two of them together, it sorta makes you shudder, but you're also kinda glad that they're both gonna get some action.
about the age thing, ro and i discussed that very topic last night! it's weird, because all the kids look too old to be in high school, and all the adults look too young to have teenagers (except sandy, maybe). ro's comment was: everyone on this show is looks like they're in their 20s.
i bet there was a test marketing focus group decision behind that.
Posted by: kfan at February 19, 2004 03:05 PMI don't care what anyone says, that is classic TV. Last night was priceless...the Seth/Sandy conversation at the table ("I think I just swallowed a little throwup"), the Luke/Mrs. Cooper scene, I don't know where to begin. I know I should have been studying, but this was worth every second of it.
Posted by: donovan at February 19, 2004 08:59 PMi wonder when they're going to release the first season on dvd. they'd be crazy to not already be working on that.
Posted by: kfan at February 20, 2004 09:49 AMthey totally sucked me in with the Super Fuirry Animals, which has been in my heavy rotation the past couple weeks. i'm not saying that i'm in for good yet, but i liked Seth quite a bit and i can see the show slowly creeping into my consciousness. dangerous.
Posted by: jamie at February 20, 2004 11:58 AMoh, the kicker for me was night moves. whoever thought of using gets my undying affection. and have you guys heard that the shins will be guest starring on the gilmore girls soon. eeeeeeekkkkk!
Posted by: shawn at February 20, 2004 02:13 PMDon't tell anyone but I just watched the first fifteen minutes of the last episode and I liked it. When Seth said, "Oh, snap" to Summer after being rejected by her, I was hooked.
I've stopped watching the episode because I'm afraid I'll become addicted. I just don't want to keep adding too many shows. Maybe I should drop Gilmore. Hmmmm.... I felt so liberated when I dropped 24.
Should I watch the rest of the episode and become a slave?
Posted by: Dan at February 20, 2004 03:28 PMdan - keep watching. the next fifteen minutes are the best fifteen minutes of television from the past week.
(i say that fully aware that i missed the most recent episode of AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL)
Posted by: marc at February 20, 2004 03:37 PMFirst of all, Peter Gallagher looks nothing like that bland lame-ass dad on One Tree Hill. Here is my comparison of those two shows: One Tree Hill is The O.C. without any cleverness, sense of irony about itself, sense of humor in general, or appealing characters.
I agree that this episode of the O.C. was a winner. I hope that Luke and Julie Cooper get to go public with their relationship. Marissa seems like more and more of an idiot each minute. If this keeps up I'm going to start wishing that she'd died in that alley in TJ. (For you O.C. newcomers, TJ means Tijuana and Marissa OD'd there.)
