beard away
late tuesday night i removed my beard. i spent five summer months growing the beard, and before i knew it, it was gone. i made sure to take plenty of pictures during the stages of removal (a photo of me looking like an old time soda jerk - or possibly an old time bartender). i was going for sean connery in "the man who would be king" but i came nowhere close to that.
i used my hair clippers to de-beard my face. doing so left a nice layer of stubble that i wore for two days. i had to let my face re-acquaint itself with the elements. earlier tonight i shaved with a razor for the first time since early april. it was a bizarre, yet familiar, experience.
a few months ago sujan gave me a bottle of kid glove shave gel. i finally used it and it was a refreshingly smooth experience. i didn't read the bottle too closely (or i forgot what gel was like) so i initially dropped my shaving brush into the mixture in the palm of my hand. when it didn't start to lather, i remembered what shaving gel was like. i gave up on the brush and applied the balm to my face. the scent was magical! i want to say it had a hint of sandalwood, but i can't be certain (because i have no idea what sandalwood smells like).
no problems with the shave. my skin is smooth and i'm looking forward to shaving two or three times a week for the next few months.
all that remains of my beard is a hint of pointy sideburns. they're not thick at all. i am a new person.
