Friday, August 19th had us stopping at the Giant Robot store. I've never been to the one in NY. Eventhough I didn't buy anything and I got bored looking at the t-shirts, I've got to admit the store is pretty awesome. If I was into buying cute things and neat books, I would've spent a fortune.

| Oh, and there's another store from the same guys half a block down the street. It's creatively titled GR2 and it contains more crafty looking items. And lots of t-shirts. Sandwiched between these two shops is a restaurant called GReats. This part of town is overflowing in cuteness. "Where is the baseball?" I kept muttering to myself. | |||||||||||||||||

| The Apple Pan. That is a lot of lettuce. And I like that the Cokes are served with Styrofoam cups of ice. Having five people all eat in the same area is tough in this "all counter" joint, but we got through it with full bellies. And I think I may have ordered too many fries. The burgers enjoyed here were the second within a 12 hour period for some of us. Before we left for LA there was a lot of talk about going straight to In-N-Out Burger from the airport. We collected our checked luggage too late and settled for Carl's Jr., which was so good (after not eating a meal on the plane) that it hardly felt like settling. | |||||||||||||||||

| Look at all those buns!!! | |||||||||||||||||

Nothing says California like palm trees and Nordstroms. Nothing says New Yorkers in California like post-lunch cigarettes and too full bellies.

| While waiting for Jen, one of our hosts, to pick up her car at the shop, how could we not take time to snap photos with the minvan in the foreground and beautiful (not at all seedy, I swear) Hollywood Blvd. in the background? | |||||||||||||||||

| Ahh, finally. Baseball. The reason we started this trip. There's a mound outside Angel Stadium. According to Handwashings the bricks on the mound contained the names of the pitchers who pitched on opening day each season. I didn't pay attention like the rest of my group. I was too excited to get inside the stadium for my first hot dog of the baseball trip. | |||||||||||||||||

| The giant A with the halo outside the stadium is awesome. | |||||||||||||||||

Ahhh, hot dog #1. Little did I know that I'd end up having a hot dog at every game during the trip (if you count the sausage I had in San Diego). This dog, like most of the others, was nothing to write home about. |

As the night wore on I wandered around the stadium a bit and ran into Handwashings who was having some Dippin' Dots (the ice cream of the future). He couldn't stop raving about them and suddenly I found a purpose for the night - I had to have a bowl of Dippin' Dots.

The concourse behind center field reminded me that I don't like looking at the tops of buildings. Why aren't they painted interesting colors or festooned with team logos?

| Turns out there was a baseball game in progress. | |||||||||||||||||

|||||||||||||||||
| Of course, I didn't let the game get in the way of trying Dippin' Dots for the first time ever. | |||||||||||||||||

| Some will tell you that Dippin' Dots are just okay. That they're just ice cream in dot form - but I ask you - what other foodstuff comes in dot form? Dippin' Dots are absolutely brilliant. And because I had a tremendous beard for the trip, I couldn't eat ice cream in cone form. Dippin' Dots are the perfect frozen treat. | |||||||||||||||||

| Group photo number one. After the game we drove back to Hollywood. During the first day in Los Angeles I learned that the traffic really is as bad as people always say it is. | |||||||||||||||||
