proselytized for your protection
so you ignored that feeling in your gut and went to see "The Day After Tomorrow" anyway didn't you? and as you stumbled out the theater, your face a rictus of pain, your disbelief still suspended, perhaps you were racked with guilt as you went to gas up your H2 about the fragile state of the planet's life-support systems? i mean, what can i do as just one person to really make a difference? here are the two simplest actions i could find:
1. become a Republican (note: only applies to non-Republicans)
2. buy some Compact Fluorescent light bulbs. we recently picked up our first 8-pack at Costco for like $20. to quote the Department of Energy:
If every household in the U.S. replaced one light bulb with an ENERGY STAR qualified compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL), it would prevent enough pollution to equal removing one million cars from the road.
they can cost up to $5-$10 a bulb but they do last forever (5+ years), they reduce your electric bill and you can always take them with you if you move.
so did anyone also go see Soul Plane? is it worth checking out or is the presence of Tom Arnold enough to impugn the whole thing? i enjoyed the ability to customize the plane's features through the website. my favorite combination was 5-5-1-2.
Comments
Tom Arnold was quite credible in "Animal Factory" as well as "Touch".
Other than that, he sucks.

The woman who sits next to me at work snuck into Soul Plane after paying for Troy on Saturday. I have decided to call this maneuver a Court Street Double Feature, as I plan to use it there in the future.
She said a lot of people brought little kids into the movie, and told the tale of this conversation from the row in back of her, during a scene when two soul passengers were having sex in the lavatory:
Little boy: Mommy, why is that man hurting that lady?
Mommy: Sshh, I want to see this part. I'll tell you later.

Thought of TSOA today as I spent three hours at a conference, "Hydrogen Technologies: Setting the Policy Research Agenda." Jesus, just what I needed. Tons of graphs and experts talking about the fact we're almost out of oil and how the shit could hit the fan. Jamie, didn't you have a post in the past few months about this? I searched but couldn't find it. Anyway, the good news is that these experts think they could have a new fuel system in place within 50 years, hydrogen being the most likely system at this point. The bad news is you don't get the 50 years if crap happens (reserves incorrectly calculated, Saudi Arabia goes psycho on the rest of the world and witholds their like 30% of all barrels and causes chain reactions in markets). Also heard an interesting argument that hybrid cars might actually work against getting an oil-free system in place b/c industries are now devoting time to hybrids which still use gas and the electricity is created as well from carbon fuels-- they're really just a band-aid on the road to converting from gas. I'm very informed now about hydrogen fuel and transportation energy issues now :) But all I could think about was how in Back to the Future II Doc used garbage to power the Delorean. That and how Kurt Vonnegut is so right in BoC how cars are like these creatures just running around the planet eating petroleum. Gotta go watch Eminem's ass on the MTV Video Awards, not a good awards show, but I'll watch it some years and for Emineme's ass, I'm tuning in. Yes, I am high.
