a trio of b-listers
scene #1, yesterday 4:15 pm
the aforementioned bootlegger is walking by. he attracts my attention and asks "have we met?". "no" i reply, to which he says "'cause you look like that guy. y'know, from Thirtysomething." i chuckle politely and say that no, i'm not him. mr. copyright infringement says "ok, 'cause i was about to ask how you ended up working here." apparently dude doesn't watch The West Wing.
scene #2; today 8:30am
the B1 idling against the curb can only mean one thing: it's the bus driver who always stops here on 13th Ave. to run in for coffee and pastries, while the commuting masses are stuck in neutral. i wait for him to come back out and open the doors, and as he returns he looks and me, asks if i am waiting for him (affirmative) and says "damn you look like that guy!" as i climb the steps in front of him he announces to all of the passengers "hey everybody, it's the star of Thirtysomething!" provoking a laugh from the large human in the i-sit-here-so-i-can-chat-with-the-driver seat. i quietly slink to the deserted back of the bus and remind myself for the 10th time this week that i need to trim my beard.

the "that guy" comparisons are a fairly recent development caused mainly by the redness of my facial hair (the presence of which is also a recent development). the first comparison to a celebrity i ever got was during my freshman year of college when some girl told me i looked like Richard Dreyfuss. i've never been sure whether to take that flatteringly or not (she was cute). over the years i got a couple more of those, but for a long time i was almost always said to look like "Steve from 90210". so who do i look more like, Timothy Busfield, Richard Dreyfuss or Ian Ziering? quite frankly i'm not thrilled by any of those choices, so maybe i should put it to a vote to decide once and for all.
what say you?

You should definitely take it as a compliment. I love Richard Dreyfus! And after the first season, I fell in love with Steve and so did all the girls I know who are 90210 fans (also, Ian is from Jersey, FYI) I don't love or hate Timothy. I can't say who you look most like b/c there's aspects of all and yet you look like Jamie to me. I'm going to go with A) Timothy Busfield since now you have your beard but mainly b/c I love his pose on TV Guide. Please pose for a photo like that soon. Then again, Drunk Jamie looks most like the pic of Richard and Mildly Confused Jamie looks like the pic if Ian. I can't decide...

i go with ian ziering. timothy busfield is interesting, but with timothy busfield it's all about the voice and your voice doesn't sound like his. you don't sound like steve sanders, either. but richard dreyfuss? that one i don't get.

i would say timothy, but i just met addie's friend paul last week, and he was a dead ringer. he rolled his eyes and nodded as soon as nick said, "hey, you look like that guy from thirtysomething." i think he gets it alot. maybe you two should get together and blow people's minds.
looking at these pix, i think i gotta go with ian, but i had such an strong hatred for steve that i need to forget that i said that as soon as possible.

young jamie was very steve sanders-esque. but the older, wiser, weathered jamie is totally busfield.

Claire, you'll be shooting the "wedding", so you can pose me however you want (remind me that we need to talk about that when we're down next weeeknd).
that's not the best picture of Dreyfuss for comparison purposes but whatever. i suppose i should have included will oldham too since that came up recently. maybe that could get me cast in a John Sayles movie.

i must say, i feel sory for you. i absolutely hate all 3 of those people. i hate all the characters they've ever played and i hate them personally as well. all really dislikable, smarmy and gross. the answer to who you look most like is will oldham. haven't we already settled this?

I have to agree with Jake on the smirking-as-people-attempt-to-move-your-drunk-ass-off-the-coats look. However, I despise Richard Dreyfuss. And I agree w/ Sujan on the Ian Z. when you were younger thing. But based on the unruly state of your beard as of late, I'd have to say Elliot from 30 something.

Richard Dreyfuss looks nothing like you, unfortunately for him. Maybe if Conan did that "If They Mated" bit with Ian Ziering and 30-something dude, it would come out looking just like you.
