what, no Bobby Flay?
even those who don't live here should be amused by the New York Press 50 Most Loathsome New Yorkers, a list that covers everyone from Chuck Klosterman to Bud Selig to Choire Sicha to Donald Trump. you won't agree with everything, but in most cases you have to admit they have a point.

choire sicha's could possible be #1 in my book. along with the rest of his gang - the self-proclaimed blogging "elite" of new york. i'm so tired of them. go away. seriously, making up blogging rules and guidelines? what's next, are you going to write up rules of how to breathe? sweet lord.

"Hey look! We're an alternative newspaper! We hate everything that other people like! How cool are we?!?" So typical and unoriginal. At least the Washington City Paper attempts to hide its disgust by writing "Infinite Jest"-length reviews.
And I actually agree with a lot of what they say. Except for David Cross and Chuck Klosterman, whose essay on sportswriters in "Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs" is scarily dead-on.

Just wanted to say that I hate the NY Press like nobody's business. I would say it's a right wing rag, but it's hard to tell if that's even true. The whole thing seems to be written in inside-joke language and/or too-personal-journalism style, so I can't even tell what it's saying most of the time.
At the 38 St. Mark's Halloween party in 1999, I met a NY Press writer who had LOVE and HATE written on the fingers of alternate hands. When I said, "Ah, Night of the Hunter," referencing the movie in which Robert Mitchum's character displayed those very same words on his fists, she said "Huh?" or maybe "Wha?" then revealed that she was trying to be Axl Rose. Anyone stupid enough to think Axl Rose did anything original shouldn't be a journalist. Then I told her that I didn't know whether or not to be offended by the NY Press's content, which she took as a compliment. In the four and a half years since then I think I've picked up that paper a total of twice and both times was again repulsed by its annoyingness.

Matt Zoller Seitz is a good movie reviewer.
And Jonathan Ames used to write for them. Other than that, it is pretty lame.
