ordering in
why do we have about half a ton of pizza in our freezer? well, Food Network was having a mini-marathon of pizza related shows. this prodded the wife to order the "special sicilian", a square pie with about 25 toppings on it. upon calling the said "i'd like to order a pie for delivery". when asked if that was it, she responded "actually, i want the special sicilian", which they took to mean in addition to the original pie. since there's only two of us and a dog with newly diagnosed thyroid problems, we ended up with enough pizza to last us the better part of the week. makes for a free lunch at least, but we're going to be very sick of pizza before all is said and done.
still, we're excited for the new brick-oven place - Franny's - that's opening on Flatbush Ave soon. the Park Slope area has somehow been designated a "good pizza-free" zone.

i have never had a good slice during ANY visit to 375 cumberland. this is one aspect of the impending move that wears heavily upon me.

that is a problem with that area. i never did a terribly exhaustive search, but nothing i tasted ever made me think "wow, this is the place i'm going from now on!"

Whatever your area's paucity of good pizza may be, it can't compare to the pizza wasteland that is Washington, D.C., right? I think a big reason for that is the lack of actual Italians running the pizza shops (the owners down here all seem to be of indeterminate Middle Eastern descent).
Syracuse is a better pizza town than D.C., for chrissakes!

i have recently put a mario's menu into the mix at 375. it's probably the best slice in the neighborhood. good sauce, good amount of cheese that's browned.
that's not saying much, but the taste doesn't make you sick like the greasy slices of Not Ray's, the sight doesn't make you turn your head like the coagulated cheese of Gino's and the size of it doesn't make you shake your head like the mini-pies of Domino's.

is it bad to admit that i like those rising crusts pizzas? like digiorno? and when i was younger, i swore by these pillsbury microwave pizzas. they were soooo good. oh and gino's pizza rolls, but that's another story.
