10 years / 10 months

t.s.o.a. isn't one to normally get too down about the passing of time, birthdays, and the like. of course, the big 29 is right around the corner, but it shouldn't lead to any age-based doldrums. what did cause a bit of misty-eyed nostalgia this morning, however, was the realization that the Working Holiday Three Day Weekend took place just over 10 years ago. *sigh*

in an unrelated matter, t.s.o.a. is officially throwing its weight behind the John Edwards campaign for president. this might be viewed as a front-running, johnny-come-lately move, but seeing his speech last night after he finished 2nd in Iowa got me all fired up to see him taking on g.w.bush. i liked Edwards from the get go, but he didn't seem to quite have it all together until now. having toyed with backing Clark and Dean (did you see him last night? good god!) but not being able to commit to either, it feels good to have the issue settled, at least on a personal level.

I like Edwards as well, but he should get that thing on his lip lasered off. It's distracting. Seriously though, I have liked Kerry all along and feel very relieved that he finally has some momentum going. While there are things I like about Dean, I think he rates a Dukakis in the electability department. We all know he can get college kids excited, but there's no way in hell he would beat Bush among the ignorant, homophobic, undereducated masses that unfortunately make up the majority of the American population.

About Edwards, I'd say that in a time when war and national security are huge issues, he doesn't have the substance it will take to make Bush look like the pipsqueak he is. He's only partway through his first time as a senator, is only 50 and looks about 40. I like his ideas, but I'm not sure people will see him as being seasoned enough. Kerry is a wounded war hero and has decades of public policy experience.

I'm encouraged to see that both Edwards and Kerry have shown a willingness to play the class warfare angle, which I think will be necessary to win. Gore blew it in 2000 by shying away from that (among other things). Maybe a Kerry-Edwards ticket would be the ideal package. I don't know what the chance of that is though.

it was definitely some fo the class warfare type stuff that made me sit up and take notice. i like Kerry too, so i'll take a closer look at the policies he's espousing.

I like Edwards. If he got the nomination, I'd be pleased. He spoke at GW last Spring and I thought he was great. I especially liked his backing of same-sex marriages (maybe he said "unions"?) but specifically talked about gay couples being able to adopt and I thought that was ballsy and it impressed me. You can read the speech (and see a pic I took of him that his office used :) at this link below:

GO DEMOCRATS!!!

PS- OMG! Dean is NUTSO! He blew it w/ that crazy-ass speech last night. Doh!

I have to acknowledge Kerry's one big drawback: his weary, long-faced appearance and accompanying dry delivery. It might help if he can overcome that somehow. Edwards definitely wins out in the charisma department. I will check his scene out too. Saw a story about him and his wife on 60 Minutes over Christmas and was impressed. If he doesn't go all the way this time I think he'd have a good chance in future elections.

Dean reminds me of some kind of grunting, snorting animal. A hedgehog, maybe.

Dean is definitely a member of the rodential family and as he gets more excited becomes more feral and insane. Kerry looks like Andrew Jackson mixed with those people from the Night Before Christmas cartoon who look like the mice that live in their clocks.

and 10 years...sigh. it feels like it though. i still haven't washed my arms from where ms. toomey touched me.
