the secret of my success

trolling around the web in my usual manner, i was semi-shocked to learn that Beck may be a Scientologist (he just married Giovanni Ribisi's twin sister - a known Scientologist as well). most people know the list of famous Hubbard followers: Cruise, Alley, Travolta, Presley, Juliette Lewis, etc. but what actors belong to marginal and/or shady religious sects? fortunately there's a page to direct you to a list for whatever religion you might be looking for. some choice samples:

Pagans: Cybill Shepard, Timothy Leary, Alice Walker, Brigitte Nielsen
Unitarians: Kurt Vonnegut, Pete Seeger
Zoroastrians: Freddie Mercury
Quakers: Dave Matthews, James Dan, Ben Kingsley, Richard Nixon (the same one who bombed Cambodia?)
Catholics: Guy Fawkes, Christina Aguilera, Eddie Van Halen
Christian Scientists: Danielle Steele, Rep. David Dreier, Mickey Rooney, Val Kilmer
Mormons: Gordon Jump, Rick Schroeder, Eliza Dushku, Neil LaBute(!), Kyle Farnsworth, Thurl Bailey
7th Day Adventists: Little Richard, Prince, David Koresh
Jehovah's Witnesses: Venus and Serena Williams, Chet Lemon, Ja Rule, Geri Halliwell

no word on whether Hugh Jackman is a snake handler or not.

Eliza Dushku, a Mormon?!? She seems so...so...slutty. But on a closer look she said she "fell out of Mormonism at a young age." Whew!

I'm proud to see that Andy Richter is a Lutheran, as proud as a Lutheran who never goes to church can be.

catholicism: the most marginal and shady sect of them all.

beck's brother-in-law, giovanni is a scientologist too, as are those annoying masterson brothers. elder masterson is hyde on that 70s show, the younger one is on malcolm in the middle. what about moonies? any famous ones?

I thought Prince became a Jehovah's Witness. It think I remember an obscurestore.com link to a story about a woman who had him come a knockin'. 'Course, I think Adventists do that too.
And I've been meaning to ask: Didn't L. Ron Hubbard write "Sabermetrics"?

Dave, you should come to our next meeting to find out how Sabermetrics can work for you to help you lead a fuller, happier, more rewarding life. and also to learn about the spaceship that Billy Beane is building that will lead us all to the eternal RBI-less bliss of the OBP galaxy.

Re: Eliza Dushku. A co-worker of mine was always quite proud of her b/c she, like he, is Albanian. His younger sister was planning her move to the US from Albania and her sponser was, that's right, Mormons. Apparently, they have a v. strong grip on the country.

The secret of my success?
Is I'm living 25 hours a day!

I'm with Jeremy why are the Catholics and poor peaceful Unitarians getting called marginal and shady? ;) J/K. I don't care. All religions are cults. No shocker that Venus and Serena are JWs. Does it surprise anyone that Mr. Fun Sponge Williams didn't let his kids celebrate their birthdays. Joanna Young, a fellow student at GW Middle School, told me in the seventh grade that she thought I was lost and brought me in a Jehova Witness bible. I didn't buy the BS. Whew, that was a close one! Anyway, I'm sad about Beck, too. No respect for Scientologists. Though we do think Hubbard was briefly a writer for the Hatchet so he can't be that bad, it's just his followers.

Rick Schroeder is a mormom? I had NO idea.

I'm a biggot, I'm a biggot!

:)

That you included Unitarians suprised me, since it's a legitimate Christian religion, but cool reps for the cause, Vonnegut and Seeger. But to include Catholicism in this list in the first place and then to use Guy Fawkes as an example was a stroke of brilliance! I want to burn him in effigy RIGHT NOW!

I've heard that Woody Allen is a Jew.

Issac Hayes is a Scientologist, too. It might be time to start getting that Scientologist all-star band together.

Gordon Jump is a dead Mormon, by the way.
